A hoodie is meant to be roomy, which makes it easy to buy the wrong size twice: once too small because it looked fine on the hanger, once too big because you sized up for comfort. A published chart removes the guesswork about your body, leaving only the choice of fit. This calculator covers adult men and women, and boys and girls, using Nike’s size charts.
How to use the hoodie size calculator
- Choose men, women, boys or girls.
- Measure the chest or bust around the fullest part, tape horizontal.
- For children, add the height. Youth sizes are set by height, with the chest choosing between the regular and the Plus size.
- Read the size and the matching numeric size and age for youth sizes.
Hoodie size formula (chart lookup)
children: sizes at your height → the first whose upper chest limit ≥ your chest (regular before Plus)
between sizes → smaller for a tighter fit, larger for a looser fit (Nike)
The adult ranges are in Nike’s tops charts, and the youth ranges in its boys’ and girls’ clothing charts (retrieved 2026-10-15). All are body measurements. Nike’s youth charts have a regular and a Plus column for each size, with the Plus having the same height range and a larger chest.

For adults, use the same ranges as the T-Shirt Size Calculator: men’s XS–4XL by chest and women’s XXS–XXL by bust.
Worked example
A boy is 52 in tall and measures 28 in around the chest.
- 52 in is in the 50–54 in height range, shared by S and S+.
- S has a chest of 26–27 in, so 28 is too large; S+ covers 28–30 in.
- The size is S+: numeric 8–9 Plus, typical age 8–10.
An adult man with a 42 inch chest is a L (chest 41–44 in).
Choosing the fit you want
- Regular fit: take the size the chart gives.
- Oversized: go up one size, especially for heavy fleece.
- Children grow quickly, so a size up lasts longer, but sleeves that are too long get in the way.
- Layering: thick base layers under a hoodie need extra room across the chest.
For T-shirts see the T-Shirt Size Calculator, for dress shirts the Shirt Size Calculator, and for babies the Baby Clothes Size Calculator. This page is general guidance from published charts.

Frequently asked questions
How do I choose a hoodie size?
Measure your chest or bust and match it to the size chart. Nike’s charts are body measurements, so a hoodie that matches your chest will fit with room for a layer underneath. For a looser, oversized look go up a size.
How do I size a hoodie for a child?
Use height first and chest second. Nike’s boys’ and girls’ charts list a size for each height range, with a Plus version for children whose chest is larger for their height. For an 8 to 10 year old boy about 52 inches tall, a 28 inch chest is an S+.
What does the plus size mean?
On Nike’s youth charts a plus size has the same length as the regular size but a wider cut, for children with a larger chest for their height. S+ is as long as S and fits a 28–30 inch chest.
What if I am between sizes?
Nike says to order the smaller size for a tighter fit or the larger size for a looser fit. The calculator rounds up to the next chart value.
Do hoodies run bigger than T-shirts?
The chart is the same body-measurement chart, but hoodies are cut with more room. Compare with the T-Shirt Size Calculator, or check the garment measurements on the product page.
