A bracelet that is exactly as long as your wrist will not close: you need slack for the clasp, the thickness of the links or beads and a little room to move. This calculator takes your wrist circumference, adds the allowance for the fit you want, and shows the bracelet length to look for, the nearest half inch and the matching standard label (small, standard or large).
How to use the bracelet size calculator
- Measure your wrist. Wrap a soft tape, or a strip of paper or string, around the spot just above the wrist bone where the bracelet will sit. Keep it snug but not tight. With paper or string, mark where the end meets and measure the strip against a ruler.
- Enter the number in inches or centimetres.
- Choose a fit: snug, comfort or loose. If you wear a watch or other bracelets together with it, choose loose.
- Read the result: the range of bracelet lengths, the nearest half inch and the standard label.
Bracelet size formula
snug: +¼ to ½ in · comfort: +¾ to 1 in · loose: +1 to 1¼ in
nearest size = midpoint of the range, rounded to the nearest ½ in
The allowances are the ones published by Sundrop Jewelry (retrieved 2026-10-16). Other jewellers give slightly different numbers: WJD Exclusives suggests ¼ in for snug, ½ in standard and 1 in loose, and USA Jewels about ½ in for snug and 1 in for loose, so the ranges here sit in the middle of what shops publish. The standard labels are small 6.5 in, standard 7 in and large 7.5 to 8 in (WJD Exclusives). The table below is computed from the formula.
| Wrist | Snug (in) | Comfort (in) | Loose (in) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5.5 in (14.0 cm) | 5.75–6 | 6.25–6.5 | 6.5–6.75 |
| 6 in (15.2 cm) | 6.25–6.5 | 6.75–7 | 7–7.25 |
| 6.5 in (16.5 cm) | 6.75–7 | 7.25–7.5 | 7.5–7.75 |
| 7 in (17.8 cm) | 7.25–7.5 | 7.75–8 | 8–8.25 |
| 7.5 in (19.1 cm) | 7.75–8 | 8.25–8.5 | 8.5–8.75 |
| 8 in (20.3 cm) | 8.25–8.5 | 8.75–9 | 9–9.25 |
For metric measurements, the comfort fit works out like this:
| Wrist | Wrist (in) | Comfort length (in) | Comfort length (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 14 cm | 5.51 | 6.26–6.51 | 15.9–16.5 |
| 15 cm | 5.91 | 6.66–6.91 | 16.9–17.5 |
| 16 cm | 6.30 | 7.05–7.30 | 17.9–18.5 |
| 17 cm | 6.69 | 7.44–7.69 | 18.9–19.5 |
| 18 cm | 7.09 | 7.84–8.09 | 19.9–20.5 |
| 19 cm | 7.48 | 8.23–8.48 | 20.9–21.5 |
| 20 cm | 7.87 | 8.62–8.87 | 21.9–22.5 |
Worked example
Your wrist measures 6 in (15.2 cm) and you like a comfortable fit.
- Allowance: ¾ to 1 in, so the bracelet length is 6.75 to 7 in.
- Midpoint 6.875 in, rounded to the nearest half inch, is 7 in: a standard size.
- A snug fit would give 6.25 to 6.5 in; a loose fit 7 to 7.25 in.
Things that change the fit
- Thickness. Chunky beads and wide cuffs have a smaller inside circumference than a thin chain of the same length, so go a size up (Sundrop Jewelry makes this point).
- Clasp. A magnetic clasp is easy to close but not adjustable; a standard clasp with an extender gives about an inch of choice.
- Bangles are different. A bangle has no clasp and must slide over your hand, so measure the widest part of the hand instead. Use the Bangle Size Calculator for those.
- Charms. Charm and multi-link bracelets crowd the wrist, so add a little length.
For rings, see the Ring Size Calculator; for a watch strap the Watch Band Size Calculator, and for ankles the Anklet Size Calculator. Measure a few times and use the larger reading if they differ. This page is general information, and a particular shop’s chart wins over it.

Frequently asked questions
How do I measure my wrist for a bracelet?
Wrap a soft tape or strip of paper just above the wrist bone, where the bracelet will sit, snug but not tight. Read the number where it meets, or mark a paper strip and measure it against a ruler.
How much should I add to my wrist size?
Shops suggest about ¼ to ½ inch for a snug fit, ¾ to 1 inch for comfort and 1 to 1¼ inches for a loose fit. This calculator uses the Sundrop Jewelry ranges.
What is a standard bracelet size?
Common labels are small 6.5 in, standard 7 in and large 7.5 to 8 in (WJD Exclusives). Some shops treat 7.5 in as standard, so check the brand chart.
Is a bangle the same as a bracelet?
No. A bangle has no clasp and slides over the hand, so its size depends on the widest part of the hand. Use the Bangle Size Calculator for bangles.
Should I size up for a thick bracelet?
Yes. Thick beads or wide cuffs have a smaller inner circumference than a thin chain of the same length, so choose the larger end of the range or the next size up.
